KCET 2020 to be cancelled? Karnataka HC asks state government to reconsider decision to conduct the exam

Karnataka High Court has heard the plea for postponement of KCET 2020 that was filed by the students and later on by NSUI too. The PIL was being heard by a Bench of judges CJ Abhay Oka and Justice Sandesh. The Court has asked Karnataka Government to reconsider its decision on conducting KCET 2020. The government is expected to come up with a reply tomorrow that is on July 29, 2020.

A total of three petitions were filed against the conduct of Karnataka CET 2020 during the pandemic. The exam has been scheduled to be held on July 30 and 31, 2020.

Today the court said, "It is true that petitioners have approached the Court very late. But considering the drastic rise in COVID-19 cases, the State Government has to immediately reconsider its decision of conducting KCET exam. There is a possibility of students missing out on the exam."

The advocate for students, Anubha Sahai said,  "the petition was filed by students and later on NSUI added their name without even informing students". The bench argued that many students might be ready to give the exams while this plea is coming in the 11th hour.

The bench told the petitioners that this was not an SSLC exam where exams could be conducted later on. “Your petition is not maintainable. You have not gone to the Authorities,” said the Court.

“State Government has to place its decision on record tomorrow by 2:30 pm,” directed the court. The exams thus would be or would not be conducted will be cleared tomorrow that is on July 29, 2020. “The Court also expresses hope that the State would look into the issues seriously,” added Karnataka High Court.
